Supervising Undercover and plainclothes Units

Attendees: This course is designed for Supervisors and Managers of Undercover and Plainclothes Officers/Detectives/Agents/Supervisorsassigned to Narcotics, Gangs, Intelligence, Internal Affairs, Vice, Human Trafficking, Task Forces or Specialized Units.

Course Description: This 5-day (36 hour) training combines “PRACTICAL” Supervising situations with classroom instruction. The training has been designed to complement the experienced Supervisor/Manager as well as bring a "new" Supervisor/Manager up to a level of awareness, safety and knowledge that is required of those seasoned Supervisors/Managers. This "pay it forward, practical" type of training has come from 25 years of instruction and 30 years of experience. Having trained over 16,000 undercover personnel Internationally and Nationally, Instructor Dave Redemann learned early in his teaching career that even though he was blessed to have a wide array of undercover experience and knowledge, he couldn't obtain the knowledge of more than 16,000 undercover personnel on his own. Through the years of dedication and hard work, Dave has earned the respect and trust of Supervisors/Managers and undercover officers/agents who have "paid forward" their special events, situation, and experiences good and bad. A large number of those experiences and events are captured and recorded in interviews that Dave uses as examples along with his experiences to help make the dangerous job of undercover work safer, more professional, and easier to supervise/manage.   His goal is to provide the information to others in an effort to make sure every undercover officer and their team gets home to their loved ones each and every night. Dave's training is updated with the most current and relevant information each and every time it is instructed.

The training covers: Supervising/Managing effective recruitment and utilization of informants, identifying safety considerations and unique problems associated with supervising/managing undercover work, addressing the psychological challenges of undercover work, identifying difficult undercover situations and undercover personnel and demonstrating methods to resolve them, understanding prosecutorial guidelines, regulations and entrapment issues, discussing risk management of undercover operations, examine additional key issues in the supervision of undercover units and personnel, demonstrating techniques for infiltration of certain criminal organizations, identifying and demonstrating briefing and debriefing technique and explaining the unique issues associated with women in undercover work.

Instructors:DAVID REDEMANN'S 30 years of undercover experience has ranged from working Vice, Narcotics, Organized Crime, White Supremacist, Militia Groups, Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations, Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs and even assisted other F.B.I. undercover personnel on an International Terrorist Case.  Dave has been an undercover for the Seattle Police Department, case agent and an interim supervisor for an undercover unit over a large portion of his 33 year career.

SGT. BRANDON JAMES has been with the Seattle Police Department for over 20 years.  He has supervised the Intelligence Unit and “deep” long term undercover operations for SPD and the FBI.  He is an experienced FBI, narcotics, and intelligence undercover.  He has investigated numerous criminal cases on corrupt police officers.  He currently is the supervisor of Internet Crimes Against Children unit.

Hands down – the best training I have ever had. I wish it was longer and even more advanced classes to pick up where this left off.

Great Experience. Thanks! I appreciated the opportunity to “taste” this side of police work and get a more clear idea of it. I actually want to do this kind of work.
